The Harrington Legionnaire coach, only 59 were built, and you will know it from that famous film with Mr Michael Cain!
The Harrington Legionnaire was an 11-metre (36 ft) passenger coach body built by Thomas Harrington Ltd. in Hove, Sussex, between 1963 and 1965. It was built on a three-axle Bedford VAL, a two-axle Ford Thames 676E, and two specials on Guy Victory trambus chassis.
The Harrington Legionnaire was a square-rigged body with a straight waistrail and five deep windows per side. It also differed from the Harrington Cavalier and Harrington Grenadier by having plated window surrounds, a large brightwork grille, and twin headlights. A Harrington Grenadier-style front windscreen was used, with a similar-sized one at the rear. Above the windscreen was a destination box of illuminated nameboard and above that was a prominent peak.
The Legionnaire gained high recognition through the 1969 film 'The Italian Job'. The coach used was registered 'ALR 453B' and was delivered new to Battens of London in 1964. So, do you have what it takes to be 'Big Willy'? Are you going to do a better job than him?

Bought the “Italian Job” experience as a treat for myself for my 40th and also one for my dad for his birthday. Both of us own classic minis and my dad is a retired bus driver. Having owned my mini since I was 17 and have watched the film countless times over the years, it felt like this was an opportunity not to miss! I drove the coach, had a passenger ride in a mini into the back of the coach (this was the main reason for booking the experience!!!), and drove a E-type Jag and Cooper S. The cars were both awesome to drive, and the coach definitely something different! All the instructors were very knowledgable and friendly, and made the whole experience very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend!
EmmaAs a bus driver myself and a big fan of The Italian Job I was bought the full Italian Job Experience including the Mini Cooper S,the E Type Jaguar and of course the famous Harrington Bus the actual one from the film. Getting to grips with this vehicle was a dream come true, but not only do you get to drive the bus you also get a passenger ride in the Mini up & into the back of the bus whilst it’s moving just like in the film. A great day out.
